sculpting and fighting the elements

its been crazy since i last posted, my project is going ok at the mo and i think i'm on schedule to get it finished by the tenth of June. so what ive been doing is basically finishing making my characters hands and attaching them and ive stayed inside all weekend and not enjoyed the sun..:( but on the brighter side..har har ive learnt a fair bit so its all good. ive been attempting to make some clothing but i need to practice it a fair bit to get the look right.

so far ive heres what ive done: i havent really touched the lower body yet, but im slowly working my way around the body.

he lives!!

ok so what ive been doing this week is making the head of my character. this took some time to get back into the swing of things as its been ages since ive actaully modelled anything organic. my first attempt didnt go well, but thats because i wasnt thinking in the way of the edgeloop!! my second attempt which i complete in a day was much faster and has much more efficient edgelooping. now ive learnt how to edge loop better and plan things out more its boosted my confidence, also im very pleased with the ears i made...wow they were anoying and i think i did well considering ive never made any before. and i can finally take the base mesh into sculpting packages to get some better details in. im also really looking forward to making his goggles, his eyes are slightly out of proportion but i designed it that way, plus you wont ever see his massive eyes anyway ^^. here are some pics:

E=MC² lost and found

ok so i had a very eventfull evening. somehow id managed to save my file to my flash drive at some point without realising, and had been working from that unknowingly. usually i store my files for projects on a particular hardrive and upon looking this evening to come back to work on it i found my file wasnt there....
 i soon found that i'd saved it to my flash drive..but what did i do earlier that day... i deleted everything on there to make space for a larger file for another project. so without realising i deleted all my work so far on this character..woo!, luckily there is software out there to recover files and thankfully it found it straight away. i restored it and made backups and hard copies just incase it happens agian.

back to business, ive neglected this project alot due to working on the third year project which has consumed all my time. but for now on im focused on my own 2nd year work. so after recovering this character which still needs a fair amount of work and its still at a base level to work from.
things to be done are:
  •  the arms from shoulders down.
  • hands, should be fun to make ^^ these will be more of a place holder for the gloves later on, so ill need to make a fairly decent hand for a glove later on.
the face which i started this evening,
  • and then when the base is done i can take it into a sculpting software package to get the finer details in
ive been looking at Jacobs blogg alot recently from the third year http://jacobgolding.blogspot.com/  basicly just picking up hints and tips from his characters as he is a very good character moddler and artist. with my characters face im trying to test out making it in seperate pieces to see if the style suits me better. and it seems to be going well so far. but ye Jacobs work is a great reference for me and hopefully this time next year i'll be on par with his standard with lots of practice.

textures

hopefully with petes lighting it'll spice the scene up alot. theres still some tiny things i havent textured such as the chains or the inkpot/quil but its 99% done.

need to put this project to the side for a little while now though as ive been neglecting my own work as i spend every waking moment on it. dissertation proposal to do. negotiated brief. soundscape and pitch project.... jees lol

E=MC²

ok so ive been really indescisive with this project ive had so many ideas i want to do and im finding it really hard to get a solid idea that i want to do first. after playing around with software and just kind of seeing my current skill level ive decided to stick to my very first idea. below are some reference images to get my overall style of the character.
basicly its a mad scientist, i hope to have a medium build character and model clothing and various items to a high standard. ive spent most my time just building a base that im reasonably happy with as a starting point. after making this basic mesh ive retopologised the mesh to make it easier to work with in the long run.
currently WIP (work in progress) ive worked on the leg area tonight to get away from some of the nastier areas.
basicly ive just tried the make nice edgeloops from the buttocks and crotch area down to the feet

amagawd!

basicly what ive been doing lately is remaking the whole ship, mainly to reduce file size and just ease of use. ive basicly reduced it to a 5th of its original size just from cleaning up the scene. the textures ive done are ok, not amazing but ok and could be redone if needs be. obviously its going to look alot different with lights in the scene
ok here ive made a second set of stairs for where the main character runs up to fill the shot a litte if needed

here is the shot of the cells after the
chilly has been thrown on it

ok and here is the cell after theyve moved
